Metea Valley 2 HInsdale Central 1
MATCH REPORT: Red Devils Suffer Blip on the Road by Zamaan Qureshi
AURORA, Il. (August 23, 2018) - Heading to Metea Valley on Thursday afternoon, Hinsdale Central picked up a loss on the road. Despite being the team to open the scoring through captain John-Paul Lteif, Central’s lead was immediately canceled out. While Lteif beat star goalkeeper Gandhi Cruz from twenty-five yards out, James Lynch responded just minutes later, breaking through the Central defense and maneuvering his way deep into the box to bring Metea Valley back on level terms.
Jaylen Brooks gave Metea Valley a late lead, twelve minutes from time, leaving Hinsdale Central with a win and a defeat from their opening two games.
An afternoon to forget for the Red Devils against a strong opponent in Metea Valley. Commenting on the defeat, Coach Michael Wiggins was positive stating, “I was very encouraged to see us get the first goal. I thought we had moments where we connected really well and built an attack.” Wiggins had high praise for Metea Valley as well saying, “we enjoy playing teams that give us a strong challenge and we get that year in and year out when we face Metea [Valley]. Coach [Josh] Robinson prepares his teams well and as a result, we knew we were in for a strong match.”
Wiggins will make sure the Central boys hold their heads up, and they’ll have to, with yet another game within the space of twenty-four hours against local rivals Hinsdale South on Friday night (8/24). Central will welcome the comfort of their home field and will hope for a lively turnout for an exciting match. That game kicks off from Central’s home field, Centennial at 4:30 PM.
